Masai Mara National Reserve is one of Kenya’s most celebrated wildlife destinations. Its rolling grasslands, riverine forests and open plains support exceptional concentrations of lions, elephants, cheetahs, leopards, buffaloes, giraffes, zebras and antelopes. The reserve forms the northern extension of the Serengeti ecosystem.
The Masai Mara is renowned for excellent predator sightings. Lions are frequently seen on the open plains, while cheetahs hunt in grassland areas and leopards favour riverine woodland. Elephants, buffaloes and other members of the Big Five are also present.
Between approximately July and October, seasonal rains and grazing patterns can bring large herds of wildebeest and zebras into the Masai Mara from the Serengeti. River crossings depend on wildlife movements and natural conditions.
