Lake Nakuru National Park is a compact and scenic wildlife destination in Kenya’s Great Rift Valley. The park protects the lake, surrounding woodland, grasslands and rocky viewpoints, supporting rhinos, Rothschild giraffes, buffaloes, lions, leopards, zebras and abundant birdlife.
Lake Nakuru is one of Kenya’s best-known rhino conservation areas. Both white and black rhinos may be seen in the park, although sightings depend on wildlife movement and natural conditions.
The lake attracts flamingos, pelicans, cormorants, herons and many other waterbirds. Flamingo numbers vary with water levels, food availability and seasonal conditions.
The park is an important refuge for Rothschild giraffes and also supports buffaloes, zebras, waterbucks, baboons, lions, leopards and many smaller mammals.
Makalia Falls, Baboon Cliff and other viewpoints provide scenic stops during a game drive, with impressive views of the lake, escarpment and surrounding woodland.
